Weekend Trips

Cape Tour Day 2

Map 2

Pretoria to Vryburg

Cobus:

Well, well, what a day we had. But let me start in Pretoria. We decided to leave Pretoria a bit later to miss most of the traffic. Let me assure you that there is no good time to go anywhere in Johannesburg.

As we left home the wind was already blowing but as we hit the open road it become worse and worse. We were riding at about a 5 deg angle the entire time. The roads between Klerksdorp and Vryburg are a bit patchy but some stretches are magnificent and believe you me if it was not for the wind we would have gone flat out there. The two Hondas performed very well and mine gave about 15km/l - not too sure what Andre got on his.

We arrived at the bed 'n breakfast and were not disappointed at all; there was also a Harley Davidson club staying there for the night. Yep and ofcourse we were outnumbered so we had to take their comments about our bikes but it was all in good spirit. We agreed that it doesn't matter what bike you ride as long as you enjoy it. They were really a good group of guys.

day 2

Janeke:

Mirror mirror on the wall, who has the coolest jacket of them all? Well Angel won that one! I have one comment - the wind was really bad yet it was also just the thing to clear the mind. If I had any negative thoughts they all went. A bike is the perfect place to meditate. I am looking forward to the rest of our trip.

Day 2

Christa:

All I can say is our journey of a lifetime has begun and what a day it is! I have never experienced wind and dust like this on a bike before, really scary at times. But we made it and I'm looking forward to the rest of the trip. Wind, rain, sun, whatever; this is what we came for. An amazing experience and one we'll never forget.

day 2

Andre:

Yes that is correct. A trip of a lifetime. One that most people would never do or experience. I have to admit the first day was difficult with the wind, at some places we really struggled to keep the bikes on the road. But it is not just the wind that became a problem, my behind also got very sore on the last few km of the trip, so bad that we had to stop quite a few times. But that didn't prevent me from finishing this trip. I'm up for the challenge. Any day. I would do it again. To another place, maybe to Eastern Transvaal.
