Rest Day At Kakamas
Well today we only took a very short drive to Augrabies Falls National Park. It's about 70km there and back. I still can't believe the road yesterday...what a road!!
What a beautiful place, like I said yesterday we as South Africans are spoilt with all the beauty in our country. The Orange River is like a blood vein running through this place and everything is kept alive by it; the water is a powerful lifeline and that's why we should all look after our water and use it responsibly.
This afternoon we are going to enjoy a good game of rugby and also a few whiskeys. Tomorrow we take on the road to Springbok and it's not that long a drive so we should arrive there quite early.
Not sure that I want to leave this place. This morning was beautiful, with the crisp air in your lungs and the song of birds in your ears. Augrabies is a definite must-see in the Northern Cape. Today was really an easy ride and most of the day felt like a Sunday. Mr Malan had a "Janeke" day today - he was a wee bit difficult today but nothing I couldn't handle. Congratulations to the Springboks for winning the Tri Nations! Go John Smit!
The day began with the sound of birds singing in my ears. I love to listen to it when the day awakens. Janeke and I went for a short walk and this must be one of the most beautiful areas in our country - I could live here. Augrabies Waterfalls are stunning, the 8th wonder of the world in my eyes. If you're in the area make a plan to stop there. On the way back I got reprimanded by Cobus who was asking why I was lying on his back - in the meantime it was more the weight of the back pack he was feeling, plus the general effect of the strain from the first few days of biking. Well I suppose this is also part of the journey and we agreed upfront to rather say what we're thinking and feeling than to try and 'keep the peace'. After a quick afternoon nap everybody seemed to be more relaxed and ready for the next day's trip to Springbok. Rather a short stretch with rain predicted along the way. Rain, sunshine or wind; nothing can beat the feeling of being so close to nature I can feel God breathing on my neck...
Well first let me say this. For those people who know Ms Strauss, you can ask her why Andre was a bit difficult today. Now for me this was once again an awesome day. We were at the Augrabies Waterfalls and it was amazing. I never thought there were such amazing places in our country. It is really beautiful there. We had a fun ride today as well, a nice and calm ride. We had a little bit of a problem with 'migies' (small bugs); we were full of them. Very irritating!! Well anyway we are off to Springbok tomorrow so more from me then.
